Back to the Future Was Right!

I always thought the scene from Back to the Future 2, where Marty McFly is playing an arcade game in the future and kids were making fun of him for having to use his hands to play the game and called it a "baby's toy", was a little far fetched. Apparently Robert Zemeckis is more prophetic than I thought. Check out this article posted on the Drudge Report:

Brain-Reading Headset to Sell for $299

NEW YORK (AP) — Hands cramping up from too many video games?

How about controlling games with your thoughts instead? Later this year, Emotiv Systems Inc. plans to start selling the $299 EPOC neuroheadset to let you do just that.

The headset's sensors are designed to detect conscious thoughts and expressions as well as "non-conscious emotions" by reading electrical signals around the brain, says the company, which demonstrated the wireless gadget at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

The company, which unveiled a prototype last year, says the headset can detect emotions such as anger, excitement and tension, as well as facial expressions and cognitive actions like pushing and pulling objects.

The headset will be sold with a game developed by Emotiv, but it can also be made to work with existing PC games, the company said. Users will also be able to access an online portal to play more games, chat or upload their own content such as music or photos.

Emotiv plans to work with IBM Corp. to explore applications beyond video gaming. The "brain computer interface" technology could transform not only gaming, but how humans and computers interact, said Paul Ledak, vice president of IBM's Digital Convergence business.

Mom is getting married!

My mom (Karen Sharp) will be getting married at the end of this month. They came and did some engagement pictures a week or so ago so I thought I would post the one they are using in their announcement. Never thought I would have taken my own mother's engagement photos:) We had a fun time. She is marrying a man named Paul West, he is a nice guy who lives part of the year in Salt Lake and the rest of the year in St. George. Best wishes to both of them as they start their new life together.

This is what Richard does the very second you sit him in front of a camera. It's amazing that he has any pictures at all. Despite his aversion to pictures, he is at a very fun age and it getting sweeter every day.

I have to take a moment and plug our friend's speakers on our blog. Leif Lundmark has been developing these speakers since we were in high scho"ol. Back then he called his first model the "tower of doom". That old "tower of doom has grown into a full line of the most incredible speakers I have ever listened to.

As someone that doesn't get excited very easily over anything technological or audio visual related, these things blew me away. Leif took me to his office in Salt Lake on 33rd south and about 13th east, right behind Joanne's Fabric. He turned on a few of these speakers and the movie Star Wars and I had a multi-media experience that would bring George Lucas to tears. I felt as if I were in the movie itself. If you are in the market for a home audio set up, look no further, and the price is right too. This picture is from a photo shoot we did last week of his new line of speakers.

So Leslie tagged me forever ago and I think I have FINALLY thought of six things most people don't know about me. So get ready to learn something new...
1. I like reading books that are set on old ships. (I love nautical talk:)! I also like paintings of old ships on stormy seas. The weird thing is I am slightly afraid of the ocean.
2. I can multitask every where expect while I am driving car. You won't find me talking on my cell phone while I am driving. I think I can count on one hand how many times I have. Safety first!
3. I almost always leave the last bite of my sandwich/hamburger/anything involving bread, on my plate. I just don't finish it. The weird thing is my mom does the same thing.
4.I don't like roller coasters. Every roller coaster I have ever been on I haven't liked, with exception to Blazing Fury aka "fire in the hole" in Dollywood, which took about five years to warm up to. I hate the 'falling' feeling. I do like going fast though.
5. Antelope Island is the quietest place I have ever been and I LOVE the sound of silence; yet I sleep better when I hear the heater or air conditioner come on.
6. I don't like chocolate milk or chocolate ice cream. I am a vanilla girl.
