Good by to an old friend.

One of my best friends from elementary school passed away this last week. I have so many fond memories of Jamie, we spent hours playing in his backyard woods, going to movies together and eating sour patch kids until our tongues were raw, playing pinball and video games together, breaking into abandoned buildings, dancing to New Kids On The Block, and having so many fun times during some of the most challenging and care free years of my life. At a time when I was a kid carpooled in from another school district and had very few friends, Jamie was my lifeline, one of the only kids that I could call a friend. He saved my life.

We grew apart as we grew older and I had no idea that his life had taken such a drastic turn. A reminder to me that you never know what someone may be going through and that all people need our love. Jamie wasn't a Mormon and probably only knew as much about the church as an 8 year old could tell him. (I used to tell him that the gold Moroni on top of the temple would one day blow his trumpet and the whole world would hear it.) (I think my brother told me that when I was little.) He was a very kind person and was a dear friend to me. I wish I could have done for him what he did for me. Rest in peace Jamie.

Jamie lost his struggle with addiction the afternoon of March 26th, 2008. He was born June 28th, 1979 in Salt Lake City, Utah.He left behind his parents, Max and Teri Savage, his brother Josh and his niece Sabrina. Jamie grew up in the Holladay area and graduated from Olympus High School. Jamie’s early years were dedicated to playing ice hockey but his true love was skiing the Wasatch Mountains. He never encountered a ski slope that he couldn’t conquer. His Ipod was filled with every genre of music. He loved to write and was always planning on being a published author someday. Jamie’s sweet personality, contagious laugh and electric smile will be missed by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece, grandma, brother, parents and countless friends. The vista of the great outdoors was where he found his peace and spirituality. Be at peace sweet boy …We love you forever. A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held for family and close friends on Monday, March 31st, 2008 , between the hours of 11am and 2pm at Red Butte Gardens, 300 Wakara Way.
